You must report tax and financial information about your biological parent(s) even though you may not be living with them.

The following are considered parents:

• Biological Parents
• Adoptive Parents
• Stepparents (if legally married to the biological or adoptive parent)

The following are not considered parents:

• Foster Parents
• Legal Guardians
• Other relatives with whom you reside

If both biological parents are deceased, you will be considered independent.
